State of Data Engineering Partners for Private Equity in 2027

Data engineering partners for private equity are suddenly the most important vendors nobody talks about. Every portfolio company now has an AI line in its value creation plan. Very few have data that an AI system can use. The typical mid-market portco carries two or three ERPs inherited from add-on acquisitions, a CRM the sales team half trusts, and a month-end close held together by spreadsheets and one controller's memory. Put an agent on top of that and it gives confident, wrong answers. When a portfolio-company AI project stalls, the pipes are usually why.

This ranking weighs what we believe matters most when a sponsor or an operating partner hires a data engineering partner on a hold-period clock. You will find PE-native consultancies next to modern-data-stack specialists and one Big Four firm, because the right partner depends on how many companies you need to consolidate and what you plan to do with the data afterward. We left out offshore staffing shops, dashboard-only BI resellers, and firms with no visible private equity work. We also weighted PE fluency heavily, so a few excellent general data firms sit lower than their engineering alone would earn. What remains are ten firms that understand add-on integration, sponsor reporting, and the pressure of an exit timeline.

TL:DR; — Top Data Engineering Firms for Private Equity

  1. PressW: Forward-deployed engineers who build the data foundation and the Claude agents that run on it, then stay on to operate both through a managed service.
  2. West Monroe: The deepest private equity deal bench on this list, and the implementation partner behind Clearlake's 2026 Databricks platform. Best for sponsors who want one firm from diligence to a portfolio-wide platform.
  3. Blue Orange Digital: A data engineering firm that targets the classic PE mess directly: ERP, CRM and HR systems that never got merged after add-ons.

Key Advantages of Working With a Data Engineering Partner

Every AI roadmap in a portfolio eventually runs into the same wall. The data.

Allvue's 2026 GP Outlook Survey of 102 senior private markets leaders found that only 8% rate their own data maturity as high, and nearly two-thirds said the ability to query data across systems and functions would be very valuable. Accordion's 2026 PE AI Adoption Benchmark, built on operating-partner responses collected in Q2 2026, names data infrastructure, organizational ownership and governance as the binding constraints on AI, ahead of model capability.

Here is what a real partner changes.

One version of the numbers across every add-on. A platform company with four acquisitions usually has four charts of accounts and four customer lists. A data engineering partner maps them into one model, so revenue by customer means the same thing in every entity.

Value creation reporting that runs on its own. The board deck, the lender package and the 100-day plan tracker should pull from the same pipelines. When an analyst rebuilds them by hand every month, the numbers drift and nobody notices until diligence.

Data an AI system can actually use. Agents need clean, governed, well-described tables with clear permissions. A warehouse built only for dashboards often lacks all four, and the gap shows up the first time a model is asked a real question.

A platform that survives the next acquisition. Onboarding the next bolt-on should take weeks. A good partner designs the ingestion layer for that from day one.

Someone still owns the pipelines in month six. Source systems change, APIs break and finance teams stop trusting a number after one bad close. The tech is relatively easy nowadays. It's the people side, and that work keeps going long after the first dashboard ships.

How We Ranked These Firms

Five things, weighted in this order:

  1. PE fluency. Does the firm publish work on portfolio data consolidation, ERP and CRM consolidation across add-ons, or value creation reporting? Named sponsors and portfolio-company case studies count for more than a generic industry page.
  2. Modern stack depth. Real engineering on Snowflake, Databricks, dbt, Fivetran and the major clouds. Partner awards help when the platform vendor or independent press confirms them.
  3. Speed. A hold period is three to seven years. A partner that needs nine months for a first trusted pipeline costs real value.
  4. AI-readiness of the output. Does the platform feed models and agents, or does it stop at a dashboard?
  5. Ongoing ownership. Does the firm run and maintain the pipelines after launch, or hand over a repo and leave?

1. PressW

The forward-deployed team that builds AI-ready data foundations for PE firms and their portcos, then puts Claude agents to work on top of them.

PressW homepage: “Strategic AI Consulting For Private Equity & Their Portfolios” | data engineering private equity

We built our Data Engineering and Data Lake Build Out practices inside our AI Transformation division for one reason. The agents we build for private equity firms and their portfolio companies are only as good as the data under them. So we start from the use case. Before a single pipeline gets written, we know which question the data has to answer, which agent will ask it, and who will act on the result. Everything runs through TransformationOS, our methodology for rapid AI transformation.

Our forward-deployed engineers sit with the people who do the work. That means the controller who reconciles three ERPs every month, the FP&A lead who rebuilds the board deck, and the operating partner who wants the same KPI across eight companies. We turn what they do by hand into scoped, tested pipelines on fixed build cycles with clear checkpoints. Engagements can open with our AI & Data Readiness Assessment, which tells a sponsor where each portco's data stands before anyone commits budget.

The difference shows up after launch. Our Managed AI Services division keeps operating what we build, and our proprietary Argos platform gives your team transparent reporting on usage, adoption and what shipped. The same team that built the data layer is the team that maintains the agents running on it.

AI Transformation: AI & Data Readiness Assessment, Forward Deployed AI Engineering, Custom AI Application & Platform Development, Data Engineering, Data Lake Build Out, AI Change Management

Managed AI Services: Claude Deployment, Configuration & Maintenance, Custom Claude Agent & Workflow Development, Claude License Management, Token & Usage Analytics, Token Optimization, AI Security, Compliance & Governance, AI Training & Support

Standout Clients: Lorient Capital, Coustier Advisory (see the recent Claude case study), S3 Ventures

Best For: PE firms and mid-market portfolio companies that want AI-ready data and production agents from one accountable team.

Why Choose PressW:

  • SOC 2 Type II certified and an Official Anthropic Partner, with a team of 100% Anthropic-certified forward-deployed engineers.
  • Data work scoped to a named AI use case, so the pipelines feed agents and decisions instead of stopping at a dashboard.
  • Managed AI Services and Argos reporting mean the team that ships the data layer keeps running it.

Keep in Mind: We are a boutique. We scale quickly, but we do not run thousand-person global programs. If the whole job is a multi-year warehouse migration across dozens of countries, or you want a firm whose identity is a single data platform, the platform specialists and large consultancies further down this list fit that shape better.

2. West Monroe

The deepest private equity deal bench on this list, now building a sponsor-wide Databricks platform for Clearlake.

West Monroe homepage: “THE NEXT STEP IN AI? BECOMING AN AI-NATIVE BUSINESS.” | data engineering private equity

West Monroe says it has advised on more than 3,000 transactions since 2002 and executed hundreds of post-close value creation investments for portfolio companies. Its data credentials for private equity go back to its 2020 acquisition of Two Six Capital, a data science firm built for sponsors. Two Six brought Intellio Predict, a product that ingests billions of data points to project the drivers of a business.

The 2026 headline is Clearlake. In July, Clearlake Capital announced a partnership with Databricks, with West Monroe as implementation partner. The plan ties investment, operational, financial and portfolio data into one environment, covering everything from deal sourcing and diligence to portfolio monitoring. It also aims to give portfolio-company management teams modern data infrastructure and practical AI tools. It is the clearest public example of a sponsor-wide data platform build we found this year.

West Monroe stays involved from diligence through post-close, which matters when the same data model has to serve a buyer's diligence questions and a seller's exit story.

Services: Portfolio value creation, technology and data diligence, data platform implementation, advanced analytics, Intellio Predict

Standout Clients: Clearlake Capital

Best For: Sponsors who want one firm to carry the data work from diligence through a portfolio-wide platform.

Why Choose West Monroe:

  • More than 3,000 transactions advised since 2002, plus hundreds of post-close value creation projects
  • A live, public, sponsor-wide Databricks build with a named fund
  • Data science for private equity built in through the Two Six acquisition

Keep in Mind: The Clearlake release discloses no timeline or quantified impact yet. The flagship public example runs on Databricks, so a Snowflake shop should ask for comparable work. West Monroe is a full consultancy, and its public material does not say whether it operates pipelines after the build.

3. Blue Orange Digital

A data engineering firm that targets the classic PE mess directly: systems that never got merged after the add-ons.

Blue Orange Digital homepage: “We don't pitch pilots. We ship outcomes.” | data engineering private equity

Blue Orange Digital says it serves private equity firms and their portfolio companies, with a focus on consolidating ERP, CRM and HR systems and building cloud data infrastructure. That is the exact problem a buy-and-build strategy creates, and few firms name it this plainly.

Its most detailed PE work is an anonymous case study for a firm managing about $20 billion. After four acquisitions, the firm's portfolio companies ran separate CRM and ERP systems. Blue Orange built a unified data platform with ML-driven deal sourcing on top, and reports a 40% increase in qualified deal flow and a 35% cut in due diligence time. Those figures are self-reported, and the client is not named.

Oliver Wyman made an equity investment in Blue Orange through its Series A. Named enterprise work includes risk analytics dashboards for The Hartford, IoT dashboards for Quext, and data architecture for NuSkin. Its case studies span Snowflake, Looker and Tableau.

Services: Data platform engineering, ERP / CRM / HR consolidation, cloud data infrastructure, ML and analytics, deal sourcing automation

Standout Clients: The Hartford, Quext, NuSkin

Best For: Platform companies and sponsors whose real blocker is a stack of systems that never got merged after add-ons.

Why Choose Blue Orange:

  • Names ERP, CRM and HR consolidation for PE as a core offer
  • A PE case study with numbers attached, at a $20 billion fund
  • Backing from Oliver Wyman, a strategy firm with its own PE client base

Keep in Mind: The PE case study is anonymous and self-reported. Its named clients are enterprises, and none is identified as PE-backed. Its public material does not describe an ongoing managed service for the pipelines it builds.

4. Analytics8

A two-decade data consultancy with a dedicated private equity practice and Elite Snowflake status.

Analytics8 homepage: “Turn data ambition into measurable value.” | data engineering private equity

Analytics8 is a Chicago firm founded in 2002, and PitchBook lists it at about 144 employees. Its private equity page says it helps PE firms combine and make sense of data from their portfolio companies. Named use cases include customer segmentation, new revenue discovery, and real-time analytics that automate financial and operational reporting. It also describes a repeatable method for running that work across many portfolio companies at once, which is the right instinct for a sponsor with ten portcos and one operating team.

The stack credentials are real. Analytics8 is an Elite Snowflake partner that integrates with dbt, Fivetran, Matillion, Power BI and Tableau. It reports integrating 15 ERP systems for one global manufacturer, which is the consolidation muscle a buy-and-build platform needs.

Analytics8 is itself PE-backed. CB Insights reports a February 2025 round with Boathouse Capital among its investors, so the firm knows the sponsor side of the table firsthand.

Services: PE portfolio analytics, data strategy, data engineering on Snowflake, dbt and Fivetran implementation, BI and reporting automation, ERP integration

Standout Clients: None named publicly for PE work.

Best For: Mid-market sponsors who want standardized portfolio reporting on a modern stack, from a firm sized like their portcos.

Why Choose Analytics8:

  • A dedicated PE practice with a repeatable cross-portfolio method
  • Elite Snowflake status plus dbt and Fivetran depth
  • A 15-ERP integration that proves the consolidation work at scale

Keep in Mind: Its heritage is analytics and reporting, so ask how far the platform goes toward feeding models and agents. It names no PE clients publicly. At roughly 144 people, a large multi-portco rollout will stretch the bench.

5. phData

The deepest modern-data-stack credentials on this list, now owned by a PE firm and building a PE channel.

phData homepage: “Build the intelligence era” | data engineering private equity

phData is a modern-data-stack specialist first. No Jitter reported in August 2026 that phData has about 750 Snowflake consulting engagements and was named Snowflake's 2026 AI Partner of the Year. phData's own materials also claim seven straight years as Snowflake Implementation Partner of the Year, plus Fivetran and dbt Labs partner awards in 2025.

The PE angle is newer. Gryphon Investors made a majority growth investment in phData in December 2024, so the firm now lives inside a sponsor's portfolio itself. In 2026, phData also recruited for an AI services lead focused on private equity, a role that covers its Anthropic PE channel and works with operating and investment partners at PE firms. That signals a PE motion forming. It does not yet prove one.

Services: Snowflake engineering and migration, dbt and Fivetran implementation, data platform modernization, AI and ML services

Standout Clients: None named publicly for PE work.

Best For: Portfolio companies standardized on Snowflake that need serious engineering throughput.

Why Choose phData:

  • About 750 Snowflake engagements and the 2026 Snowflake AI Partner of the Year award
  • Partner recognition across the modern stack, including Fivetran and dbt Labs
  • PE-owned, with a PE-focused Anthropic channel taking shape

Keep in Mind: The PE practice is early, with no published portfolio-company case study. The firm's center of gravity is Snowflake, and we did not confirm comparable Databricks depth.

6. Accordion

A PE-focused consultancy where the data team works for the CFO.

Accordion homepage: “Private equity’s value creation partner.” | data engineering private equity

Accordion is a private equity-focused consulting firm built around the office of the CFO. Its Data & Analytics practice works with PE sponsors and their portfolio companies across retail, CPG, healthcare, media, technology and logistics. The team builds reporting and analytics across sales, operations, marketing and pricing data. Accordion's careers copy says its India-based D&A group has more than 800 people.

The firm is pushing further toward engineering. Its Accordion Intelligence Lab builds and runs the AI systems behind its consulting work, including agentic architectures and RAG pipelines, and in 2026 it hired forward-deployed engineers for data and analytics in several US cities. Its 2026 PE AI Adoption Benchmark also gives it a clear view of where operating partners are stuck. Charlesbank Capital Partners and Motive Partners took a majority stake in Accordion in 2022.

Services: Data & analytics, CFO services, FP&A and reporting, pricing analytics, AI assessments, Accordion Intelligence Lab builds

Standout Clients: None named publicly.

Best For: Sponsors whose value creation plan runs through the CFO, where reporting, pricing and cash matter most.

Why Choose Accordion:

  • Private equity is its core market, so sponsor reporting rhythms are second nature
  • A large offshore D&A bench for volume reporting work
  • A finance lens that ties every dashboard back to EBITDA

Keep in Mind: The practice is finance-led. Heavy platform engineering, like a lakehouse build across several add-ons, is a different skill from FP&A reporting, so ask who does that work. Much of the delivery is offshore. We found no public Snowflake or Databricks partner credentials.

7. Teragonia

A PE-only platform company that sells the data foundation as a product.

Teragonia homepage: “The AI Operating System for Private Equity” | data engineering private equity

Teragonia's Astradis platform builds data foundations for PE-backed companies, then deploys AI applications aimed at EBITDA growth and exit readiness across a portfolio. In January 2026, Teragonia said its ARR more than tripled during 2025 and that it doubled the number of sponsors it formally partners with. Those are self-reported numbers.

The firm is building out its sponsor coverage. In 2026 it named William Byers EVP of Finance & Corporate Development and Jason Boo Managing Director of Financial Sponsor Coverage. Its April 2026 release lists offices in New York, Toronto, Dallas, London, São Paulo, Bengaluru and Kochi. Other profiles list far fewer offices and about 50 employees, so treat its scale as unsettled.

Services: Astradis platform, portfolio data foundation, AI applications for EBITDA growth, exit readiness analytics

Standout Clients: None verified for this review.

Best For: Sponsors who want a standardized data and analytics layer stood up across many portcos as a product.

Why Choose Teragonia:

  • Built for private equity sponsors and PE-backed operating companies
  • A product approach that repeats across a portfolio instead of restarting each time
  • Strong reported momentum with sponsors in 2025

Keep in Mind: Buying Teragonia means buying software, with custom engineering as a separate question. Data that falls outside the product's model still needs someone to engineer it. Headcount and footprint figures conflict across sources, and the growth numbers are self-reported.

8. Alvarez & Marsal

An operator-led PE performance improvement firm, with data work housed inside finance transformation.

Alvarez & Marsal Digital & Technology Services page: “DIGITAL & TECHNOLOGY SERVICES” | data engineering private equity

Alvarez & Marsal's Private Equity Performance Improvement practice works with PE-held portfolio companies to improve operating results, and focuses on middle-market and large-cap sponsors. Its CFO Services group lists Digital Finance Transformation as a core pillar, and its 2026 hiring includes data scientists inside that team.

That is about the extent of the public evidence. We found no published data platform offering, case study, or Snowflake or Databricks partnership. A&M earns a place here for PE fluency and operator credibility. When a data fix is one piece of a broader 100-day plan or a turnaround, the firm already in the room often ends up owning it.

Services: PE performance improvement, CFO services, digital finance transformation, finance data and analytics

Standout Clients: None named for data work.

Best For: Portfolio companies under performance pressure, where the data work is part of a broader operational or finance overhaul.

Why Choose Alvarez & Marsal:

  • A performance improvement practice built specifically for PE-held companies
  • Operators who already sit inside the 100-day plan
  • Data science capacity inside its finance transformation team

Keep in Mind: Data engineering is not the core product, and we found no public stack credentials. Expect large-firm rates. If the main job is the platform itself, pair A&M with a data specialist or hire the specialist directly.

9. Hakkoda (IBM)

Elite-level Snowflake engineering, now inside IBM.

Hakkoda (IBM) homepage: “Unleash innovation.” | data engineering private equity

IBM acquired Hakkoda in a deal that closed on April 2, 2025, with terms undisclosed. IBM describes Hakkoda as an award-winning Snowflake partner with strong capabilities in migrating, modernizing and monetizing data estates. Coverage of the deal describes it as an Elite Snowflake partner with hundreds of SnowPro certifications. Before the acquisition, Tercera was an investor.

We found no private equity practice. Hakkoda is on this list for one reason: when a large portco needs a big, fast Snowflake migration, that is Hakkoda's core business. IBM ownership adds reach, and it also adds a large-firm buying process.

Services: Data estate migration and modernization, Snowflake engineering, data monetization, AI data readiness

Standout Clients: None named publicly.

Best For: Larger portfolio companies running a major Snowflake migration on a deadline.

Why Choose Hakkoda:

  • Deep Snowflake bench, with hundreds of SnowPro certifications reported
  • Migration and modernization as the core business
  • IBM's reach for multi-region portcos

Keep in Mind: No PE practice, no PE case study, and no stated approach to add-on consolidation. Since the acquisition, buying Hakkoda means buying through IBM, which is a poor fit for a mid-market portco on a tight budget.

10. EY

A Big Four firm with a dedicated private equity data and analytics team.

EY homepage: “From Artificial Intelligence to Super Intelligence: trust must now be proven” | data engineering private equity

EY's private equity value creation services embed data and analytics at each stage of the work, from strategy and operating performance to growth and exit optimization. Its 2026 hiring describes a Private Equity Data and Analytics team that helps PE-backed companies and their sponsors with data management, data engineering, data science and analytics. The same postings ask for familiarity with data fabric, data mesh and data products, which suggests a modern architecture practice.

We found no public PE data platform case study. EY's strength is breadth: diligence, transaction advisory and value creation under one roof, at global scale.

Services: PE value creation, data strategy, data engineering, data management, analytics, exit optimization

Standout Clients: None named publicly for PE data work.

Best For: Large-cap sponsors who already use EY for diligence or transaction advisory and want the data work inside that relationship.

Why Choose EY:

  • A named private equity data and analytics team inside a Big Four firm
  • Data work tied to the full deal cycle, from diligence through exit
  • Global scale for large, multi-country portfolio companies

Keep in Mind: Big Four rates and staffing models rarely suit a $100M revenue portco. If EY audits the fund or the company, independence rules can limit what it is allowed to build. We found no published PE data platform outcome.

Final Thoughts on Choosing a Data Engineering Partner for Private Equity

Portfolio AI in 2027 will be decided by data engineering more than by model choice. The sponsors moving fastest are treating the data layer as part of the value creation plan, with consolidated add-ons, automated value creation reporting, and governed tables that an agent can query safely. Every firm on this list can help with part of that. The difference between them comes down to PE fluency, how far the work goes past the dashboard, and who keeps the pipelines running after launch.

We do not think there is one right answer for every fund. A large-cap sponsor rebuilding a twelve-company platform needs a different partner than a mid-market portco trying to get one clean P&L out of three ERPs. If you want the data foundation and the AI on top of it built and run by one team, our Data Engineering and AI Transformation services are where that work lives. When you are ready to compare notes on a specific portco, reach out to our team.
